FAQ's
What does CPSC certified mean?
CPSC stands for the Consumer Product Safety Commission. This Federal agency has jurisdiction over many products, including toys. The CPSC enforces the laws and approves which labs can be used for 3rd party testing to ensure toy safety compliance. The CPSC approved labs conduct tests to validate that both the toy designs and the materials used in the toys are safe for children. Two examples of these tests are small parts (toy design) and lead content in surface coatings (material). While not all small shops take this step, you can rest assured that all Nomari Design toys meet CPSC requirements.
What are CPSIA compliant materials?
CPSIA stands for the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act. This Federal document defines the regulations for children’s products, including toys. Certain materials are unsafe for children; as such, testing must be conducted on the materials being used in toys to check for things like lead and phthalates. All Nomari Design toys use materials that comply with CPSIA.
What is toy safe wood?
Different species of wood have different properties. Some woods (like walnut) have extratives that are helpful for the tree but can be harmful for little ones - esp if it were to end up in their mouths. Some woods (like pine) are more likely to splinter and create sharp, dangerous parts if they break. We use hardwoods maple and poplar for their strength, relative lack of extractives, and light coloring to best absorb a rainbow of color. You will notice that we offer walnut, cherry, oak, and maple tones in some of our toys - aside from the maple tone, these other tones are created by staining the maple or poplar to create a different wood tone.
Do I need to put something on my unfinished wooden toys?
The short answer is no. You do not need to put anything on your unfinished wooden toys - they can be played with just as they are. Wood has some amazing properties that make it a great fit for toys. One is longevity - my children still play with unfinished blocks and cars at Grandma & Grandpa’s house that my father made for me when I was a child. Another amazing property is the fact that unfinished wood is naturally antimicrobial so an unfinished wooden toy might just be the “cleanest” toy you have.
How should I clean wooden toys?
The best way to clean wooden toys is to simply wipe them with a damp cloth and wipe dry. Do not submerge them. Given the porous nature of wood (especially unfinished wood), we do not recommend using chemicals or other cleaners as it could soak into the wood.
How long will it take for my order to ship?
Normal items will ship approximately 4-6 weeks from time of order. Pre-ordered items will ship approximately 6-8 weeks from time of order. We are a small family shop and do not want to over-commit and under-deliver. At times, we are able to ship sooner; if you have a special event that you are purchasing for, please let us know. Although we cannot commit to a sooner ship date, we will do what we can to accommodate it.
